IMG 2180 1The Medicine Hat Mavericks Baseball Club is excited to introduce their coaching staff for the 2017 season.

Field Manager Michael Thompson. Michael joins the Mavericks organization with two seasons of play with the Quebec Capitals (CanAm League) under his belt. Throughout his career, Thompson played 3 years collegiate ball and 9 years professionally, including time with the Astros, which made him a perfect fit for the Mavericks team.

I have had the opportunity to be around some great coaches and players and have formed my own coaching style and philosophy from those experiences which I feel translates well at the college level.

During the last few seasons of his career in professional baseball, Thompson took on the role of mentoring younger players and decided that coaching was what he was meant to do.

Assistant Coach Andrew Murphy. Andrew joins us from the baseball program at Henderson State University. Murphy was a four-year letter winner at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Okla. Murphy played second base for the Eagles and finished his career with a .336 batting average.

The NAIA Scholar Athlete was also part of Oklahoma Wesleyan's 2010 NCCAA national championship team.

Pitching Coach Kyle Swannack. Kyle spent two years pitching at Bellevue College. During his time there, he helped his team become the 2011 NWAC Baseball champions. He was also the 1st Team ABCA All American pitcher and the North Region MVP.

Following his time at Bellevue, Kyle went on to spend four years at Washington State University before turning to coaching.

The Mavericks dedicated coaching staff is something Owner Greg Morrison can look forward to.

"I'm very excited to have the strong coaching staff we've signed for 2017. Michael Thompson has 9 years of professional baseball under him which will provide great leadership to our coaching staff. Kyle is returning for his 3rd season with us, including the Championship 2014 year. Kyle knows what it takes to build and lead a winning team in the WMBL.

Andew already has experience in a couple different summer college leagues as a coach. Combined with his time at Henderson State, he'll be a great addition to our staff."

Coaching staff and players will report to Med Hat the end of May with a three day mini-camp to launch the 2017 season.
