The Medicine Hat Mavericks are leaving Weyburn with two wins.

The Mavericks beat the Beavers 13-10 Sunday night to follow up on their 6-5 win Saturday night.

Mavs head coach Tyler Jeske said it’s always nice to win, especially on the road.

“Coming in here and getting two runs, creates a little more separation for that final playoff spot when you start looking at the division,” Jeske said. “To me that’s the key, we’re in a playoff spot right now, to create that separation and get that solidified. Then from there we start building and try to over take people.”

Medicine Hat sits in fourth of the East division with a record of 11-6. Weyburn is in the fifth and final spot with a season record of 7-20.

The Mavericks struck early Sunday with a one run first frame.

Shortstop Nate Ade knocked in a run with a hit that forced an error.

Medicine Hat added five runs in the second to go ahead 6-0.

Catcher Andrew Savage, in his Mavericks debut, knocked in a run with an RBI single.  Centre fielder Braden DeSonia added to the tally with a two RBI double.

DeSonia led the way offensively with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Right fielder David Dell scored on a passed ball and a sacrifice hit from Ade drove in another run.

Medicine Hat pushed their lead to 10-0 in the fourth inning.

Ade drove in one run with a single before first basemen Hunter Boylan drove in a pair with a single of his own. Left fielder Austin Cappas drove in the final run of the frame with a sacrifice hit.

Weyburn got on the board in the fifth, scoring two runs on two separate hits.

Mavericks starter Hunter Cooper’s day was done on the mound after the fifth having picked up three strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Mavericks added to their lead in the sixth, scoring two on a RBI triple from third basemen Nate Ewing and a sac hit from Boylan.

The first basemen finished the game with two hits, two RBIs. He said it’s great for their program to leave Weyburn with the two wins and credited those around him in the lineup for his success.

“I’m surrounded by a bunch of guys that are getting hits, so it makes my job easier,” Boylan said. “Just have to focus on the situation and go from there.”

The Beavers crept back in, scoring four runs of their own to cut the lead to 12-6.

Bryce Libke worked the sixth inning with one strikeout and Jack Suhai pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Mavs with three K’s.

Second basemen Kellan Williamson drove in a run in the seventh on an sac fly to centre field.

The Beavers made it interesting in the eighth, scoring four runs to cut the Mavs lead to 13-10 heading into the ninth.

Before Weyburn could try and mount a comeback in the ninth, Ewing shut the door on the mound with a strikeout.

The Mavericks(11-16) are off Monday before they host the Regina Red Sox Tuesday at Athletic Park.
