Okotoks, Alberta – The Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club is pleased to announce the selection of the following Dawgs players to the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) West Division All-Star Team:
- Graham Brunner, pitcher, Illinois State University, Illinois
- Ryan McFarland, pitcher, Campbellsville University, Kentucky
- Jacob Morrow, catcher, Linn-Benton Community College, Oregon
- McCoy Pearce, infielder, Okanagan College, British Columbia
- Brendan Luther, infielder, Okanagan College, British Columbia
- Micah McDowell, outfielder, Oregon State University, Oregon
- Noah Geekie, outfielder/pitcher, Emporia State University, Kansas
The “ace” of the Dawgs pitching staff, left-handed pitcher Graham Brunner is having another outstanding season with five wins and a 1.45 ERA. Right-handed pitcher Ryan McFarland gets the nod with a 1.21 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched.
Dawgs backstop Jacob Morrow has been a pillar of stability behind the plate as well, hitting .380 with a pair of home runs and 19 runs batted in (RBI). First Baseman McCoy Pearce earns an All-Star nomination for hitting .371 with three homers and 24 RBI. Infielder Brendan Luther joins his teammates with a .364 average and 32 runs scored.
The dynamic Micah McDowell will be roaming the outfield and in limited time is batting .400 with a team leading 14 stolen bases.
Rounding out the Dawgs All-Stars is Noah Geekie, who has been the model of consistency sporting a .368 average with 10 stolen bases.
The coaching staff of the West Division will also feature a couple of Dawgs. Managing the club will be Okotoks head coach Mitch Schmidt, while Dawgs coaching legend David Robb serves as bench boss.
The WCBL All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd at 7:05 p.m. at beautiful Seaman Stadium in Okotoks. The gates will open at 4 p.m. and the event will feature a 5 p.m. Home Run Derby; autograph signings by former Major League Baseball (MLB) standout and Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Matt Stairs; musical entertainment; a pre-game show and a post-game fireworks display.
