It feels like an eternity since the Mavericks have played a baseball game. Two days of rain forced their games against the Saskatoon Berries and Moose Jaw Miller Express to be moved to a later date. Thankfully for Mavericks fans, today’s game is a go as the Moose Jaw Miller Express are in town for the second time this season.
Medicine Hat is coming off a game on Friday where they walked off the WCBL’s top team, the Saskatoon Berries. The momentum from that night is still on their side as they look to stay undefeated at home.
For the Moose Jaw Miller Express, they almost negated the Mavs’ home win streak from even happening as they put up a strong fight in their first visit to the Gas City. A seven-run 8th inning in that game allowed the Millers to tie things up, and if it weren’t for a solo shot from Evan Morrison an inning later, the Mavs’ win streak could have been ended.
Moose Jaw has found its rhythm since that night, going 6-4 over its last 10 games. Despite not being as high profile as in years past, Moose Jaw continued to build superstars and has found a new pair again in 2025.
William Edwards and Jackson Yeager have both made noise in June, with each claiming over 20 RBIs. Edwards has become a steady contact hitter, holding a .386 batting average, while Yeager has made his hay in the power department with 4 home runs.
Medicine Hat has found a duo of their own that will be featured this afternoon. Catcher Nate King and pitcher Xander Roberts have won their last two games together as a battery. Since being paired with King, Roberts has only given up 1 earned run over his last 11.2 innings pitched. It will be another big test for King and Roberts as they prepare for the Miller Express.
It’s going to be a chilly day in Medicine Hat as the Mavericks and Miller Express match up in a rerun of the 2023 WCBL conference finals. Temperatures are expected to hover around 11, accompanied by a frigid breeze. Nonetheless, it’s good to have baseball back after a two-day intermission, as Athletic Park invites both fans and their dogs on Bark in the Park night.
