There is still hope for the Mavericks to snag the first seed as they hammer the Red Sox 14-7 in a game that fell after just two innings.

The Mavericks took control by scoring 8 runs to the Red Sox 0 to begin the game. From this point on, the flow of the game never changed as the Red Sox didn’t find their mojo until the top of the 9th, in which the game was already out of hand.

With the Mavericks coming out on top, they claim their 5th straight win and have opened a window to the first seed as they sit only 2.5 games back and will face off against Regina again tonight looking to pick up another game.

Keys for Medicine Hat

After Adam Golby claimed his second consecutive win yesterday, Jacob Petersheim will look to follow suit as the Mavs ace hunts his 6th consecutive win with his parents in the house.

JP has been a workhorse for the Mavs, pitching 58.2 innings over 11 games. He has yet to lose a game this summer and has consistently been a pitcher who can give Med Hat six strong innings.

This game on paper sets up well for the Mavericks as they get their best pitcher on the bump combined with one of the best-scoring offenses in the league.

Nick Thibodeau is coming off of a 5 RBI night as he tied his teammate Jordan Phillips with 60 RBIs on the year. That not only ties the two for the team lead but also the league lead.

Regina is also a high-scoring team, but will they be able to keep the Maverick’s big dogs off of the score sheet? That is one question they were unable to answer yesterday.

Keys for Regina

Despite the Red Sox defence having two errors yesterday, all three came in the infield. The Red Sox outfield, well, it was the land of highlights on Thursday night.

The trio of Danny Gonzalez, Silas Butler, and Jackson Syring have patrolled the grass all year long. With Syring being absent, Glenn Noronha stepped into the lineup and made an instant splash.

Noronha made two sensational diving plays in right field to rob the Mavericks; it was indeed Noronha’s time in Medicine Hat. Danny Gonzalez didn’t see a lot of action in left, but he was locked in when the ball did visit his neighborhood.

Silas Butler made Johnny Vulcano check his pockets after leaping up into the deepest part of the park and reeling back in Vulcano’s long ball to save the Sox from giving up a three-run bomb.

The Mavericks will have to be selective in their hitting because no space in the outfield is safe when the Red Sox are in town.

Bottom Line

The Red Sox will look once again to secure the first seed at Athletic Park, while the Mavericks will seek out another victory, extending their streak to six games and giving them a stab at first place. The action kicks off from Athletic Park at 7:05 pm on what should be another cloudless night of baseball.
