It will be a quick turnaround for both the Weyburn Beavers and the Medicine Hat Mavericks as they close out their two-game series this afternoon at 2:05 pm. The Beavers are coming off a 16-3 win over the Mavs on Saturday and have now taken a 1.5-game lead over Medicine Hat in the Eastern division standings.
For an offence that has been quiet for a majority of the summer, the Beavers looked like a completely new group yesterday. Noah Brooks recorded 3 hits in his 5 at-bats, proving why he was one of the league’s better hitters in past seasons.
Alongside Brooks’s impressive return, a pair of former Beaver all-stars also starred alongside their fellow veteran. Ryan Dauphinee and Brayden Mayencourt each deposited 3 hits, with Dauphinee adding 4 RBIs and Mayencourt finding 2. It really could not have worked out any better on the offensive side of the ball for the Beavers, and fortunately, their pitching matched that same standard.
Josh Pritchard, who now has pitched in over 60 innings during his first season in Weyburn, worked in 7 of the game’s 8 innings, being credited with the win for the Beavers. On top of his lengthy start, Pritchard managed to limit the Mavs’ offence to 3 runs and 7 hits. If the Beavers receive the same sort of production from their starter in game 2, they may be well on their way to another victory.
Medicine Hat will turn to Julian Pokorny on the mound, who makes another routine start at home, likely for the final time in the regular season. With only two home games remaining, the Mavs are hoping that Pokorny’s start can ignite the Athletic Park faithful. Pokorny’s season has seen mixed results, but the potential for the former WCBL all-star is still there.
As the playoffs continue to approach, Medicine Hat remains in the fight to keep their season alive. In past meetings, the Mavs have fared well against the Beavers over the course of 2026, holding a 5-2 record heading into today, but as last night showed, Weyburn is a hungry group that rises to the occasion during the biggest moments.
There’s a lot still on the line for the Weyburn Beavers and Medicine Hat Mavericks, who will meet for the final time during the 2026 regular season. Medicine Hat looks for a hard reset after a disappointing Saturday, while the Beavers hope for an encore performance to close out their weekend trip to the Gas City.
