Mavericks Welcome 2018 Coaching Staff
The summer of 2018 will bring back some familiar faces to the Mavericks coaching staff. Following the departure of head coach Michael Thompson; Mavericks former 1st base/Assistant Coach Andrew Murphy is happy to be coming back to fill his shoes as Skipper in the upcoming season.
“The Mavericks are a first class organization with unbelievably hard working people making everything happen.” Says Murphy. “I have bounced around to different summer leagues over the past 3 years and the WMBL is easily the most competitive and well-balanced league I’ve coached in.”
Although competitive, Murphy says there is one main reason for his return to the WMBL. “What brought me back to Medicine Hat was the fans. The support we got last summer night in and night out was unbelievable. It made summer baseball extremely enjoyable!”
Following an exceptional 2017 season, Murphy has full faith in his coaching and his team. “We came close last year, which just makes it more exciting for us this summer. I’m looking forward to watching our guys competing every night,” he says. “It’s fun to watch how much player’s improve from game to game.”
Also returning to the team is Assistant GM and Pitching Coach, Kyle Swannack. Joining the Mavericks back in 2014, Swannack is familiar with the league and knows what it takes to win.
“Over the course of 4 years, I have been so proud of the passion from each set of guys, whether they’re new or returning players.” States Swannack. “It’s always a challenge to get guys who have never played together to be a cohesive group, but I think that is the goal of any coach. Once we have that underway, I know our team can be unstoppable.”
