The Fort McMurray Giants found a way to make life hard for the Mavericks Sunday afternoon, forcing them into their worst loss of the season.

The Giant’s offense turned things up yesterday cashing in 16 runs on 16 hits. They got production from every player in the lineup as all 9 of their hitters recorded a hit. Their 7th inning was a masterpiece as they painted the scoreboard with 12 runs.

This wouldn’t be a proper post-game recap without talking about Jun Ho Son. He looked like Luis Arraez at the plate going a perfect 4 for 4 on the day.

It seemed like every piece of grass in the outfield was touched by Ho Son and his routine at the plate never waivered. He hunted down the pitches he wanted, while also possessing a patience that allowed him to walk twice.

Chan Yoon got the start for Fort McMurray but he only stayed in for 3 innings of work. He only allowed 2 hits throughout his time on the mound, but his early exit allowed the Mavericks to get back into the game.

Maxx Davidson entered the game and watched the Mavericks load up the bases, before shutting them down with three straight outs. He proceeded to give up a game-tying 3-run homer to Blake Dale just an inning later.

John Shields was the third and final pitcher to enter the game for the Giants and he took care of the rest after the Giants gave him a sizeable cushion.

The Mavericks offense looked tired and the top half of the lineup wasn’t able to go going when the bottom half found their stride.

Micah Dvorak had his best game as a Mav so far working three walks and darting a sharp double into right center. However, he did not come into score once. If that doesn’t sum up this game I don’t know what does.

Jack (Novak) was not able to be a giant slayer in his start and the Giants hitters seemed to have a good read on him from the jump.

None of the Mavericks pitchers had an answer for what the Giants were dishing out. Not sure that even prime Greg Maddux would have been able to keep Medicine Hat in this game. It was just one of those days.

Fort McMurray proved they’re a team that is going to be a problem this summer and might be able to make some noise in a loaded West division.

Both teams will meet up again at Athletic Park for game 2 as the Mavs look to regain their offensive touch and get back to their winning ways.
